Holland is pleased to participate and help support the following research initiatives.

Somali Autism Causation Study of Minnesota

Researcher Dr. Catherine DeSoto at University of Northern Iowa will be investigating the higher prevalence of autism in the Somali population.  Autism is estimated at 1 in 100 children in the US, but in the Somali population it is estimated at 1 in 28 children.  This study will be examining prenatal exposures, environmental factors, nutritional deficiencies and vaccinations.  This study will be taking place at the Holland Center & Clinic facility in Minnetonka MN.  Estimated completion Spring 2012.

Mirror Neuron Development and ABA

Holland Center is collaborating with the University of Minnesota in a study to examine the mirror neuron system.  This brain system may be related to social referencing and appears to be altered in autism.  Our study will examine the mirror neuron development with ABA therapy.  Lead researcher is John Hoch PhD with the U of M.  Study will be taking place at Holland Center and Clinic in Minnetonka MN. Estimated completion is Winter 2012.
