Colby Vann photo - Music Therapist, Holland Center
We are very excited to introduce you to Colby Vann, our new Music Therapist at Holland Center. Colby is a Nationally Board-Certified Music Therapist and a member of the American Music Therapy Association. She attended the University of Miami and received a degree in Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology, followed by a 6-month clinical internship at Fraser School, in Minneapolis. Colby works primarily with children, both typical and special needs, in settings of group and individual, using music as a therapeutic medium for positive changes in behavior. She will begin Music Therapy when we return from our winter break on January 2nd, 2008 (specific days and times have not been determined yet).

Costs (billed directly to parents from Holland Center, not through insurance):

    Individual Sessions:
      $45.00 per 30-minute session
      $60.00 per 45-minute session
      $75.00 per 60-minute session
    Group Sessions:
$30.00 per client for 45-minute session

One does not have to play a musical instrument, or even be musically inclined to benefit from Music Therapy. Music is being used in interventions to address specific behavioral goals. Rhythm, lyrics, and melody provide predictable structure to guide and influence behavior. Playing instruments can be a rewarding and effective way to improve fine and gross motor skills. In addition, playing in a group can reinforce social awareness and encourage peer interaction. Music Therapy is very unique in that it can address communication, motor, cognitive, and social goals, depending on the individual needs of the client.

For more information about Music Therapy and how it can benefit your child, please contact Colby Vann at 561-271-2815 or via email cvann616@aol.com. Additional information about the field of Music Therapy and current research can be found at www.musictherapy.org.
