Chemical Free Facility

Holland Center strives to be as safe as possible. This includes eliminating chemicals from the environment that could be harmful to the immune systems of the children.

Our center uses all chemical free, non toxic cleaning products. We use a professional steamer to steam toys and rooms at the center. The high temperature steam eliminates bacteria, germs and virus.

There are no pesticides or herbicides used on the grounds. All students, staff and visitors are requested to remove their shoes or wear center only shoes at Holland.

The paint used throughout the center is low VOC paint which is safer. It is low odor and low chemical. It was painted in May 2004 before the center opened its doors.

The carpet in Holland Center is 12 years old. Although it's not pretty to look at after 12 years, the chemicals have been completely outgassed. This is safe for our children.

The work space tables and kitchen tables are untreated lumber with a water based finish. Wood or metal is chosen whenever possible for center needs. We strive to lessen any plastic especially soft plastics which are toxic.

Staff is asked to wear frangrance free products.

The playground is a "Rainbow Playset" build with Redwood. This wood is not treated lumber and is therefore safer for our kids.

Gluten Free/Casein Free Environment

The benefits of dietary intervention have been proven and supported by researchers in the autism community. We've provided links below for convenience on education of the GF/CF diet.

For the benefit of the students Holland Center is a gluten and casein free facility. Many chilren with autism have been found to not have sufficient amounts of the DPPIV enzyme that breaks down the gluten and casein molecules.

Each child has lunch and snacks made specifically to the specification of the child's diet.

Our therapist are trained to understand the dietary interventions and help parents comply to the centers expectations. Our therapists also understand the need for vitamin and mineral supplementation in most of the children.

Therapists have also been trained to administer medications to the children who have daily medication needs.
